The driver was arrested after using a power tool in an attempt to remove vehicle clamp in the Town Centre on Thursday (14th March)
The motorist had their vehicle seized and impounded by Rotherham Council after persistently offending, racking up 12 unpaid parking fines.
On Thursday (14 March) parking enforcement officers clamped the vehicle on Domine Lane, Rotherham and had arranged for it to be towed away as a โpersistent evaderโ.
The driver then attempted to remove the clamp by using a power tool before police arrived and the individual was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
Cllr Denise Lelliott, Rotherham Councilโs Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy, said: โUnfortunately a small number of motorists are responsible for a number of offences, which can cause safety issues for other highway users. Some of these people think they are untouchable but the Council will catch up with them.
โWeโre determined to crack down on these types of persistent offending โ and Iโm pleased to say that over the last two years or so weโve noticed a reduction in problems with vehicles being parked dangerously or in contravention day after day.โ
