Thieves throw bricks, bottles and a claw hammer at Police after shop break-in

Police were called to a burglary in progress at McColls, on Rotherham Road in Great Houghton, at around 11.20pm on Saturday (20th October)

Officers spotted the suspects making an escape in a silver BMW 1 Series and further officers were soon called to the area.

The getaway car was soon spotted heading along the B6089 Stubbin Road heading towards Rawmarsh.

Police engaged in a pursuit where the occupants began to start throwing bricks, bottles and a claw hammer pursuit vehicle.

The BMW was soon abandoned on Clay Pit Lane, Rawmarsh, where the four offenders escaped the efforts of a police dog helicopter crew.

The BMW was found to containing an amount of tobacco and alcohol was later recovered for forensic examination.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident 1082 of October 20.
