A Bramley woman has set up a Mental Health charity in memory of her granddad, with the aim of providing support for the elderly who suffer with mental illnesses.

Kristie Edwards, 21, from Wickersley set up her charity ‘Tillie’s Thoughts’ after her granddad, Tony Davis, took his own life at the age of 77.

Describing her grandad as “the greatest human being you could ever wish to meet. He called me Tillie from being born, that’s why I created the name.”

On the 25th May this year, Tony decided to take his life into his own hands.

Kristie wants to raise awareness on mental health in the elderly and says that “that mental health can affect our grandparents, as it could be right under your nose.”

“Part of me wants to achieve inner peace and some how turn my heartbreak into something positive.

Kristie’s Charity, Tillie’s Thoughts will be hosting a number of events and activities including Coffee mornings, activity clubs, competitions and events to be able to increase donations and to then start providing counselling sessions for the elderly, in an ideal location providing days out for those in care homes, and to one day make the charity a national charity.”

The money raised will be funded into a project which actively provides counselling services and support.

“I feel as though something needs to be created to target the elders. Three million people over the age of 60 are suffering from depression.”
